Good Morning.  Today is the 150th day of the year.

THE TWO-BOOK MINIMUM SERIES, a free stand-up comedy show, is taking place tonight at 9 p.m. at The Community Bookstore.  Guests include author of “Sh*t Rough Drafts,” Paul Laudiero; Saturday Night Live and Boston Comedy Festival talent Kendra Cunningham; Montreal’s Just For Laughs talent Doug Smith; and NY’s Funniest Competition talent Robert Dean.
The Community Bookstore’s website describes the event as a “free night of stand-up, stories and a few drunken ramblings about their favorite books.”

THE WORLD SCIENCE FESTIVAL will continue this weekend.  Free events include A Comet “Lands” In Brooklyn today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Brooklyn Bridge Park; Earth & Other Worlds, a trivia game led by NASA engineer Bobak Ferdowsi and others, tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Gould Plaza; and Science and Story Café: Meet the Authors, featuring top science authors, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the NYU Kimmel Center.  For more information and events, visit worldsciencefestival.com.

THE FIRST AMERICAN DAILY NEWSPAPER WAS PUBLISHED on this day in 1783.  The Pennsylvania Evening Post was published in Philadelphia by Benjamin Towne.

RUSSIAN DZAR AND EMPEROR PETER I was born on this date in 1672. Peter I established printing presses in Russia and encouraged trade with foreign countries.  He also increased the power of the Russian monarchy through overhauling the Russian Orthodox Church, military and the structure of taxes at the time.  He died Jan. 28, 1725.

TODAY IS SAINT JOAN OF ARC FEAST DAY. The French heroine and martyr led the French against the English army in the early 1400s.  She was burned at the stake after being found guilty of heresy in 1431 at the age of 19.  Her innocence was declared in 1456.

THE WORLD TRADE CENTER RECOVER AND CLEANUP ended on this date in 2002 in New York City.  This was marked by a solemn, mostly silent ceremony, ending the recovery operations at Ground Zero.

ON THIS DATE IN 1902, THE BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE published an article titled “Soldiers, Old and Young, In Brooklyn’s Big Parade.” The article focused on the large turnout.
“There were not so many in the parade, but there was a crowd to watch it twice as large as any throng that ever before viewed a Memorial Day parade in Brooklyn, stretching from the fountain on Bedford Avenue to the reviewing stand in front of the Hanover Club…”
