Good morning. Today is the 77th day of the year. On this day in 1870, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle ran a story headlined “St. Patrick’s Day Celebration in Brooklyn.” It said that year’s St. Patrick’s Day was the biggest ever in the then-city of Brooklyn, and “all the local Irish societies turned out to honor the memory of St. Patrick.” The fact that the weather was bitterly cold did not faze the marchers, and all the Catholic churches held Masses in honor of St. Patrick. The chief society among the marchers was the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

Well-known people who were born today include Olympic speed skater Bonnie Blair, actress-signer Queen Latifah, signer and former baseball pitcher Charley Price, singer-actress Vanessa Williams and singer Irene Cara (“Fame,” ‘’The Dream”).
