Good morning. Today is the 154th day of the year. In the Brooklyn Daily Eagle of June 4, 1902, foreign news dominated. The main headline was “Liberal Terms for the Boers,” referring to the Boer War between Dutch settlers in South Africa and the British authorities. As part of the terms marking the end of the war, the Dutch, also known as Boers or Afrikaners, would “recognize King Edward of England as their lawful sovereign.”

Well-known people who were born today include former tennis player Andrea Jaeger, actress Angelina Jolie (“Girl, Interrupted,” “The Tourist”), singer Michelle Philllips of The Mamas and The Papas, and TV and radio host Dr. Ruth Westheimer.
