Brooklyn Today for July 25
Good morning. Today is the 206th day of the year. On July 25, 1897, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle carried an article titled, “The London Theaters: Emma Bullet Compares Them With Those of Paris.” Her article focused more on the audience and the theaters themselves than with the actors and the performances. For example, she observes that women in London come to the theater “bare-headed,” meaning without bonnets, and she approvingly says that brings out their natural beauty. She also writes about the paintings on the walls and vases containing fresh flowers as well as the elaborate costumes worn by the actors and actresses.
Bullet was the author of “The Autobiography of Emma Bullet: Twenty-Five Years the Paris Correspondent of the Brooklyn Eagle,” published in 1906.
Well-know people who were born today include journalist Midge Decter, model-actress Iman, hockey player Evgeni Nabakov and Hall of Fame basketball player Nate Thurmond.
