A TEE OFF event will take place today at Herbert Von King Park from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The event, Tee Off with NYC’s Young Golfers, will feature practice time opportunities and lessons for children ages 6 to 8. The event is courtesy of City Parks Foundation.

THIS WEEK’S Wednesday Night Tour at Brooklyn Bridge Park will focus on Coastal Wetlands. The tour will meet at the Pier 1 entrance at 6:30 p.m. and will be led by The Nature Conservancy’s Emily Maxwell.

ON THIS DAY in 1914, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published an article titled “Bar Dogs from City, Urges Goldwater.” The article focuses on an outbreak of rabies among New York City dogs. The health commissioner at the time, Goldwater, attempted to pass a law that would ban dogs from NYC.

“Pet dogs may soon have to go from New York City,” the article reported. “Alarmed at the increase in the number of rabies cases in the city within the past few months, Health Commissioner Goldwater has come out in the open and has advocated a law to sweep the city clean of all dogs.”
