Good morning. Today is the 24th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Jan. 24, 1902, reported that Mrs. Pansy B. Pritchard of Quincy Street in what is now Bedford-Stuyvesant had just obtained a divorce from Robert Pritchard, “one of the best-known young men in Brooklyn’s social and athletic circles.” The cause of the divorce was the fact that Pritchard, a real estate broker, had consorted with several “disreputable women” during trips to Puerto Rico.

Well-known people who were born today include Brooklyn-born singer-songwriter Neil Diamond (“Sweet Caroline,” “Cherry, Cherry”), singer Aaron Neville (“Tell It Like It Is”), U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan and Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton.
