Good morning. Today is the 14th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Jan. 14, 1902, reported on plans to build a new, 12-story apartment hotel on Montague and Hicks streets. The apartments would range from two rooms to a “full suite.” It would be a hotel and there would be no cooking in the rooms, the Eagle stressed, but there would be a general dining room for the guests. The building, at 200 Hicks St., is now known as the Casino Mansion Apartments and is next to the Heights Casino.

Well-known people who were born today include Georgia legislator and civil rights leader Julian Bond, actress Faye Dunaway (“Network,” ‘Bonnie and Clyde,” “Chinatown”), former astronaut Shannon Lucid, news anchor Shepard Smith, filmmaker Steven Soderbergh (“Ocean’s Eleven,” ‘Erin Brockovich’), broadcast journalist Nina Totenberg and actor Carl Weathers (“Rocky,” “Happy Gilmore”).
