Good morning. Today is the 307th day of the year. On this day in 1947, the mammoth flying boat Hercules was flown, only once, by Howard Hughes. The $25 million, 200-ton plywood craft was nicknamed the “Spruce Goose.” It is now displayed at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon.

Well-known people who were born today include political commentator Patrick Buchanan, sex researcher Shere Hite (“The Hite Report”), singer k.d. lang, golfer Dave Stockton and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
