Good morning. Today is the 36th day of the year. On the day in 1914, the Brooklyn Public Library’s trustees proposed a deal by which the system would be absorbed into the New York Public Library if Brooklyn were allowed to have half the number of trustees. Obviously, the deal did not go through, since the Brooklyn and Queens library systems are still independent today. At the time, the main library in Brooklyn was on Montague Street; the current central branch at Grand Army Plaza had not yet been built.

Well-known people who were born today include Hall of Fame baseball player Hank Aaron, actress Barbara Hershey (“Hannah and Her Sisters”), actor David Selby (“Falcon Crest”), actor Michael Sheen (“Frost/Nixon”), writer-comedian Christopher Guest (“Spinal Tap,” “Best in Show”) and actress Charlotte Rampling (“Georgy Girl”).
