Good morning. Today is the 339th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Dec. 4, 1902, quotes President Greatsinger (no first name given) of the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company (BRT), which operated most of the borough’s streetcars, as saying the company was moving as fast as possible to heat the cars. The cars were to be heated from the same electrical source that powered their motors. The BRT also owned the elevated lines and surface steam railroads in Brooklyn, and it evolved into the BMT division of the city subway system.

Well-known people who were born today include actor Max Baer Jr. of “The Beverly Hillbillies”), rapper (and part-owner of the Brooklyn Nets) Jay-Z, Brooklyn-born actress Marisa Tomei (“My Cousin Vinnie”) and jazz singer Cassandra Wilson.
