Good morning. Today is the 337th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Dec. 3, 1901, reported that residents of Gowanus, Carroll Gardens and Park Slope were up in arms about the city’s plan to build five new bridges over the Gowanus Canal. The article pointed out that the five bridges that were then in place were still in good working order. The Litchfield Estate, which owned land along the Gowanus “that the Pennsylvania Railroad is said to be after,” and the Brooklyn Sanitary Utilization Committee were said to be the main forces in favor of the new bridges.

Well-known people who were born today include filmmaker Jean Luc Godard (“Breathless,” “Weekend”), actress Daryl Hannah (“Splash,” “Grumpy Old Men’), singer-songwriter Ozzy Osbourne, Olympic figure skater Katarina Witt and actress Julianne Moore (“Children of Men, “The Hours”).
