Good morning. Today is the 338th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle for Dec. 3, 1908, reported on the funeral for a Municipal Court judge, Edward C. Dowling, at the Church of Nativity, Classon and Madison streets, Bedford-Stuyvesant. The pallbearers included an assemblyman, several other Municipal Court justices, the commissioner of jurors, and the head of one of the local Republican clubs. At that time, the Republican Party was strong in Brooklyn. As for the church, it closed in the early 1970s, and the building became the home of an African-American Pentecostal congregation.

Well-known people who were born today include filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard (“Breathless,” ‘Weekend”), signer Ferlin Husky (“Gone”), singer-songwriter Ozzy Osborne (first lead signer of Black Sabbath) and figure skater Katarina Witt.
