Good morning. Today is the 235th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Aug. 23, 1902, contained an ad for “Malt Creamlet Cocoa.” This product, similar to hot chocolate, consisted of squares that were meant to be put into hot water or hot milk, where they would dissolve. Later that year, after a complaint from a New York City resident, the state Department of Health concluded that the product contained very little cocoa, but lots of sugar and fat. Nevertheless, the state determined that it was harmless and could still be sold.

Well-known people who were born today include basketball player Kobe Bryant, Hall of Fame football player Sonny Jurgensen, actress Barbara Eden (“I Dream of Jeannie”), actor Scott Caan (“Hawaii Five-0”) and comedian Mark Russell.
