Good morning. Today is the 98th day of the year. On this day in 1900, the Brooklyn Daily Eagle published a photograph of its new “delivery automobile” which was designed to deliver copies of the paper throughout the borough. The vehicle wasn’t really an automobile as we know it, but was basically an electric-powered tricycle with an enclosed storage compartment in the center. The Eagle said the device had “the speed of a locomotive with none of the noise, and the facility of the horse without that animal’s capacity for getting tired.”

Well-known people who were born today include former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, comedian-actor Shecky Green, actor Stuart Pankin, musician-singer Julian Lennon (“Valotte,” “Too Late for Goodbye”) and U.S. Senator Ron Johnson.
