Good morning. Today is the 109th day of the year. On this day in 1923, more than 74,000 fans attended opening day ceremonies at Yankees Stadium in the Bronx. For the New York World-Telegram, sportswriter Fred Lieb described the stadium as “The House That [Babe] Ruth Built,” and the name stuck. Previously, the Yankees had shared the Polo Grounds in Manhattan with the New York Giants.

Well-known people who were born today include talk-show host Conan O’Brien, actress Hayley Mills (Pollyana, The Parent Trap), actress Barbara Hale (“Perry Mason”) and actor-director Robert Hooks (Star Trek II: The Search for Spock, Day of Absence).
