NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The government says a 25-year-old Brooklyn man has pleaded guilty to three counts of murder related to two slayings in Virginia and one in New York.

Prosecutors say the plea was entered Tuesday in Newport News by Phillip Michael Bryant. He pleaded guilty to the two Virginia murders in connection with what the government says was his strong-arm tactics to take over a Hampton housing project and use it as a center of his drug activity.

He admitted killing Sean McCracken in November 2009 and Johnny Avery in March 2010 to achieve those ends. Both were killed on Lincoln Park Housing Development property.

The third murder involved a New York State corrections officer. Jeremy Kane was killed in June 2009.

A sentencing date for Bryant was not released by prosecutors.
