Brooklyn Legal Services `A’ to hold annual awards benefit

Prominent leaders from New York City’s legal and business worlds will join some of Brooklyn’s most influential community advocates and elected officials for Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A’s 44th Anniversary gathering at the Brooklyn Marriott Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

The Brooklyn A Annual Partnership Awards Benefit honors three individuals for their contributions towards providing legal services for those in need and for building partnerships between organizations who serve NYC communities.

William Cavanaugh Jr., co-chair at Patterson Belknap, will receive the first annual Judge Tyler Award. He is being recognized for his and his firm’s deep commitment to pro bono work in addition to his public service work in the Department of Justice.

Mariadele Priest, vice president of community banking at Capital One, is this year’s corporate honoree and recipient of the Denis Berger Award in recognition of her outstanding work as a community advocate and coalition builder.

The recipient of the 2012 Sargent Shriver award is Councilwoman Diana Reyna of the 34th District, which includes Williamsburg, Bushwick and Ridgewood.. She is being recognized for activism in the field of affordable housing for her community, and her commitment to the needs of the indigent, minority, and working class populations within these communities.

Jeanine Ramirez of New York One will serve as emcee of the event, and the guest speaker will be Samuel Seymour, partner at Sullivan & Cromwell and former president of the New York City Bar Association.
