EAST NEW YORK — The suspected thief of a black Mercedes-Benz didn’t want to slow down for Brooklyn police yesterday, flying past a roadblock in the boosted car and drawing fire before fleeing on foot and getting cuffed on a roof, according to the New York Post.

The unidentified bandit set the chase off at around 9:30 a.m. yesterday after officers from the 75th Precinct pulled him over in the Mercedes on Pennsylvania Avenue in East New York, suspecting that the car was stolen. The driver cooperated long enough for patrol officers to confirm their suspicions and then made a swift departure.

A police captain in the area joined the pursuit and improvised a roadblock with his car at Liberty and Sheffield avenues, according to the Post. The driver stopped when he reached the roadblock, prompting the captain to approach his car to make the arrest. But when the officer drew near, the driver lurched the Benz and glanced the captain’s leg before speeding around the roadblock as the officer fired a shot from behind.

After heading in the wrong direction down the one-way Powell Street and colliding with a van and charter bus, the driver abandoned the car and made a last dash onto a nearby rooftop where he was apprehended.
