Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz said on Tuesday that Borough Hall, in Downtown Brooklyn, would be bathed in green lights all week to commemorate the victims of Monday’s bombing in Boston.

“Brooklyn’s thoughts and prayers are with the city of Boston and all of those who were killed or injured by the bombings at the Boston Marathon, and tonight we will light Borough Hall green in honor of all the victims and their families,” Markowitz said in a statement.

Markowitz said those to blame “must be made an example of and evil doers the world over made to realize that any action against the American people will be met with swift, systematic punishment.”

On Monday night, the Occupy Wall Street Light Brigade illuminated the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) with words of support for Boston. Messages included Martin Luther King Jr.’s quote “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that,” and “Brooklyn Loves Boston.” (See images at the Atlantic Wire.)

One of the people killed in Monday’s Boston Marathon explosion was a Boston University graduate student, Boston.com reported. Two others killed were an eight-year-old boy and a young woman.

Among the roughly 145 wounded are three Tufts University students, seven Emerson College students, three Northeastern University students, two Boston College students, and one Berklee College of Music student. At least two Chinese students were among those injured the bombings, and another is still missing.

The color green was chosen to honor Boston in a campaign by runners in Saturday’s Salt Lake City Marathon. Joshua Snow Hansen told The Huffington Post, “It really was the first color that came to mind for Boston, mainly because of their Irish heritage and Boston Celtics.”
