It snowed on Saturday, but luckily, the annual Bay Ridge Community Council President’s Luncheon went off without a hitch.

Hundreds of business owners, religious leaders, civic activists, and elected officials gathered at the Manor, at 476 76th St., on Jan. 26 to toast the council and one another.

The luncheon is the place where Bay Ridge’s elite meet to eat!

Founded in 1951, the community council is an umbrella organization representing nearly 100 groups in Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Fort Hamilton – everything from church groups to PTAs to local hospitals – all of whom are working to make the neighborhoods better places to live and work.

The President’s Luncheon is held each year to honor the leaders of the community council’s member organizations.

Lawmakers always show up to talk about their latest legislation and ideas. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, City Comptroller John Liu, state senators Marty Golden (R-Bay Ridge-southern Brooklyn) and Eric Adams (D-Crown Heights-Flatbush), assembly members Peter Abbate (D-Bensonhurst), Alec Brook-Krasny (D-Bay Ridge-Coney Island) and Nicole Malliotakis (R-Bay Ridge-Staten Island), and City Councilman Vincent Gentile (D-Bay Ridge-Dyker Heights-Bensonhurst) all attended the event.

Looking around the Manor ballroom, Community Council President Renee Dorsa marveled at the crowded room. “What a wonderful turnout!” she said.

The luncheon is the first event in what promises to be an action-packed year for the community council. Later this year will come the annual dinner-dance, an essay contest for local schoolchildren, and a Halloween window painting contest for kids.
