Brooklyn residents Waichun Yung and Aron Shi will have a remarkable Hurricane Sandy story to tell for years to come.

Expecting a baby, Waichun Yung was supposed to go to a hospital in Manhattan. But with the bridges closed, and his wife going into labor, Aron Shi called 911 in the early morning hours of Oct. 30. EMTs from Lutheran Medical Center arrived within minutes, but mom was already about to deliver, her water had broken, and she was doubled over in the kitchen.

EMTs Anthony Graffeo and Mike Basti acted fast. Anthony delivered the baby at 5:46 a.m., and Mike cut the cord.

The parents decided to name the baby after the hurricane.

Sandy, who was originally going to be named Rebecca, is healthy and weighs seven pounds and one ounce. She is 20.5 inches long. The relieved family reunited with the EMTs later in the day at Lutheran Medical Center.
