Auto shop fire spreads to fitness club
More than three dozen firefighters were needed to extinguish a fire in an auto body shop on the morning of Jan. 19, officials said.
No one was injured in the one-alarm blaze, at 75th Street Auto Body Shop at 316 75th St., but the blaze was serious enough to warrant an “all hands” call, designating it as the most serious type of one-alarm fire.
The fire began in the auto body shop and spread to the second floor, where a Dolphin Fitness Center is located, officials said. “It started in the mechanic shop. There was some extension to the second floor,” said a spokesman for the Fire Department.
