In conjunction with the TASTE Williamsburg Greenpoint food festival this past Sunday, another great event — the Greenpointers Indie Makers Market — took place next door

The market — organized by Greenpointers, a hyperlocal news site for all things related to Greenpoint — was located inside the former rubber factory Biba Williamsburg at 110 Kent Ave.

The organizer of the market and publisher of Greenpointers, Julia Moak, said that this event was different from their seasonal market event because instead of being designed around a seasonal theme, this event “was a lot about celebrating local crafters and bringing the community together alongside TASTE Williamsburg Greenpoint, which has a great mission.”

The Indie Markers Market featured a specially curated selection of 20 local artists and craftspeople who make a wide range of goods including custom handcrafted guitars, vegan chocolate, tiny terrarium jewelry, hand-knit apparel, dog portraits and much more.

Beryl Fine, the founder of Haute Chocolate, was at the event selling her organic and vegan chocolate. Fine makes chocolates by hand in Brooklyn and creates unique flavors such as cinnamon chipotle and salted rosemary. “It’s been OK so far,” said Fine, halfway through the event. “Hopefully, it picks up” she added.

Karen Dosch, the creator of The Needle and Eye, came from the Poconos to showcase her hand-knitted goods at the market. Although her company has only been around for two years, she has been knitting for more than 15 years and makes quilts, scarves, hats and other apparel pieces. Dosch said she hadn’t sold much during the early hours of the event, but said, “It is a beautiful event, I’m optimistic about today.”

In addition to shopping for local and handmade goods, visitors had the opportunity to get henna tattoos and tarot card readings and watch magic lessons by the Brooklyn Paranormal Society.
