Assemblymember Nicole Malliotakis teamed up with experts from the Maimonides Medical Center to host “Friends and Family CPR,” a free program to teach participants the basics of cardio pulmonary resuscitation at a special session held on on Nov. 5.

Fifty residents attended the training session and learned life-saving skills, Malliotakis said. The training session took place at Salam Arabic Lutheran Church in Bay Ridge.

“Knowing what to do when someone is choking, having a heart attack or goes into cardiac arrest can be the difference between life and death. If the skills learned during this event save one life, it was well worth it.” Malliotakis (R-C-Bay Ridge-Staten Island) said. “I’m so thankful that Maimonides offered this training service to us and Salam Arabic Lutheran Church for hosting the event.”

Dr. John Marshall, chairman of Emergency Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center, said CPR is an important skill to know.

“CPR saves lives – it’s that simple,” Marshall said. “We’re delighted to partner with Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis in providing this essential training.”
