CARROLL GARDENS You know it’s really summer when the Carroll Park Kids Concerts get rolling. The first of this summer’s concerts featuring toe-tapping music, food and fun with the neighbors takes place Saturday, June 23 at from 2–5 p.m. To add to the hilarity, Karen K & the Jitterbugs plan to perform with students, teachers and staff from P.S. 58.

Since the release of their debut album "Pancakes for Dinner" last year, Karen K & the Jitterbugs have become rising stars on the “kiddie” music scene.

The Carroll Park Kids Concert Series is a beloved summer mainstay with the local families of Brownstone Brooklyn. Revived by local mom Simmi Degnemark in 2008, the concert series has grown in size and scope every year since.

This past March, Degnemark was honored with the Lucy Burns Activist Award for her contributions to the community. At the ceremony Degnemark said, “For me it’s a dream. I get to bring music and the arts, family and education to the borough of Brooklyn.”

Food and fun at the events run from 2–5 p.m.; the music starts at 4 p.m.

All proceeds benefit the Friends of Carroll Park (501C) and collaborating schools. Sponsors and concession providers include 16 Handles; Smith Canteen; MiniMax; The Moxie Spot; Barking Cat Studios; and Council Member Brad Lander.

Carroll Park is located at President Street and Smith Street in Carroll Gardens. Visit www.carrollparkbrooklyn.org/concerts
