It’s Getting Pretty Wild at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum

Come visit the Brooklyn Children’s Museum for the rumpus-filled, interactive Wild Things Circle Time storytelling sessions.

In celebration of the Spike Jonze film Where the Wild Things Are, an adaptation of the classic children’s story by Maurice Sendak, the Museum rips with Wild Things Circle Time during a three-week-long, harvest-and-Halloween Monster Mash Fest.

Brooklyn Kids’ Dreams for the Gowanus Canal

This past weekend AGAST launched the AGAST kids Art Exhibition during their 13th Annual Open Studio Tour. AGAST artists collaborated with children of P.S. 58, The Carroll School, to create an art exhibit titled: “Our Hopes & Dreams for the Gowanus Canal.”

The art was produced by the entire fourth grade class; 75 students participated under the guidance and direction of their art teacher Megan Kimball. The fourth-graders worked collaboratively to create paintings/collages around the theme of the Gowanus Canal. They were informed by research, on-site visits, their own perceptions of the canal and AGAST artist visits by Regina Perlin, Francis Sills, and Ella Yang. BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK — Students from a marine biology course at Saint Ann’s School in Brooklyn Heights made plankton tows out of stockings and jars and put on waders to go seining in the East River at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

An exciting program of readings by P.S. 8 students and faculty will kick off the P.S. 8 2009 Book Fair and Read-a-thon on Thursday, October 22, at the Court Street Barnes & Noble. Middle School Fairs Begin this Week

Department of Education (DOE) middle school fairs begin on October 13, and run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Students will receive applications at their elementary school in November; they are due by December 15. Students in Districts 17, 18, 20, 22, 24, and 30 who plan to apply to Academically Enriched Programs should submit the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) “request for testing” form by October 28.
