This week I celebrated my 89th birthday. I received many calls and birthday cards from family and friends. I want to thank all of you for remembering. But there is one I received that I am most appreciative of is the one I received from Senator Mike Nozzolio who I feel I can call a dear friend. Thank you, senator, for the beautiful card. You are always so thoughtful.

Youth Band Pays Tribute To Cemetery’s `Residents’

GREEN-WOOD -- “I absolutely loved it.” That is what Pat Collins of Cobble Hill said after the two-hour-plus performance of the ISO Symphonic Band. “This is my fourth year, and these guys were the best.” Her friend Joy Tutiven, from Manhattan, said, “This is the best way to start off the summer.”

Nation’s Longest Continuously Run Memorial Day Parade in Bay Ridge

BAY RIDGE — The 141st Kings County Memorial Day Parade kicks off in Bay Ridge at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2008. All participants should report to the parade marshals on 87th Street and Third Avenue at 9:30 a.m. The route of the parade travels along Third Avenue to Marine Avenue up to Fourth Avenue and concludes in John Paul Jones Park on 101st Street and Fourth Avenue. BAY RIDGE — It was a star-studded salute for Colonel Tracey Nicholson as the Rankin Healy VFW Post #4785 held a gala “farewell” reception for first female commanding officer of the Fort Hamilton U.S. Army Base, bound for a key assignment in Iraq this summer.

Grave Unveiled for Civil War General

An Irish patriot who was also a Civil war general was honored Saturday at a Brooklyn cemetery. The Green-Wood Historic Fund recently unveiled a gravestone for Thomas Francis Meagher. He disappeared in the Missouri River in 1867, and his body was never found.

Bay Ridge Colonel Stops by District Attorney’s Office En Route to Iraq

Fort Hamilton Commissary Director Receives Honors
