LIU Basketball Star Holub Dies at 87

Former Long Island University basketball star Dick Holub passed away on July 27 in Sun City West, Ariz., the Brooklyn school announced last week.

Holub was a member of the Blackbirds’ 1941 national championship team and was inducted into the LIU Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.

Born Oct. 29, 1921, in Racine, Wisc., Holub spent his early years in Racine and North Chicago, Ill., before moving to New York City in 1938. His basketball career began after he was {read more...}





Ted Hallas, Carroll Gardens Resident, Dies at 67

Republican Leader Served As City Commissioner

BAY RIDGE – Rosemarie O’Keefe, long active in the Bay Ridge civic and political communities and former commissioner of the Mayor’s Community Assistance Unit, has died of cancer at a hospice connected with Lutheran Medical Center.

Longtime Brooklyn Heights resident Lois Raebeck died last Saturday morning at Long Island College Hospital after a long illness. She was 87.

Comedian was First Ever ‘King of Brooklyn’

The Brooklyn-born actor and comedian Dom DeLuise has died at the age of 75. The large and lovable actor passed away in his sleep in a hospital in Los Angeles, according to published reports.
