People with mental illness who have or are at risk of diabetes learned the secrets to a healthy life -- that don't sacrifice the fun -- during the free Oct. 20 food fair, “Livin’ It Sweet: Healthy Alternatives,” held at Brooklyn Borough Hall. Brooklyn Chamber Presents ‘Brooklyn Eats’

“Food is big business in Brooklyn. There are more than 1,000 restaurants across the borough and more than 100 food and beverage manufacturers. No matter how you slice it, bake it or brew it, food is one of the main ingredients in the Brooklyn economy.”

These are the compelling reasons put forth by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce as to why you should be excited about its 12th Brooklyn Eats. Scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., the culinary extravaganza will, for a second year, take place at Stage 6, Steiner Studios, in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Brooklyn Eats has grown steadily since 1997, its first year, when just 20 restaurants took part. The twist this year is the {read more...}

Bay Ridge Foodie Takes Top Prize for Sandwich

During Bay Ridge’s annual Third Avenue Festival, food writer Sarah Zorn triumphed at Robicelli’s Gourmet Market’s sandwich-making competition. Zorn, herself a Bay Ridgeite, beat 20 other contestants for a cash prize and the opportunity to have her sandwich installed on Robicelli’s menu. Chefs Matt and Allison Robicelli’s should be seeing a bit more of Zorn — she also won a free sandwich per week!
